The Pros and Cons of ChatGPT as a travel blogger.

ChatGPT is a revolutionary tool but there are advantages and disadvantages of using it as a travel blogger. We are sure that you tried it before or you are using it today but we will explain to you more about the usage of ChatGPT and the consequences too.

Scenario: Let’s say you’re a travel blogger. You just returned from a trip to Brazil, and have some photos of some monuments like “_Cristo Redentor_“ ready to be published. You are in front of your desk ready to write your article but BLANK, nothing comes to your mind. You’re having some flashbacks of your trip but you don’t know how to communicate it into a blog post. You want to publish it this week but with no inspiration, nothing is going to get done.

Let’s take a look at how ChatGPT can be both helpful and hurtful for you as a travel blogger with this scenario.

The Pros of ChatGPT as a Travel Writer:

We are sure that this situation or something similar could have happened to you in the past and obviously ChatGPT will help you:

  1. Structure your articles: If we consider that scenario, a roadblock that you have can be the fact that you just don’t know how to structure this specific article. For this example you can train ChatGPT first and then ask your request. What do we mean by that? You will explain what you have, so “I just had a trip to Brazil and I have a photo of Christo Redentor, etc…” If you do not explain what you have, ChatGPT will give you a general structure that anyone can get. But because you _“given it knowledge” _it will personalize your next request. The other aspect of doing this it’s that you can keep the conversation going and it will take into consideration what you asked it before. The next prompt can be ‘’Based on what I told you before, make me a structure that I can use for my next blog, with image placeholder too’’.

  2. Generate ideas: ChatGPT can help you with the generating content part of your blog. For example, spots you’ve never been to that might be interesting to visit. You’ve done most of the trips you wanted to do in the past few years, but you don’t have any new destinations that would be interesting for content creation. A prompt for ChatGPT can be “Make me a list of destinations where you can create good content”. This is just an example- we know you can be more creative than that!

  3. SEO optimization: ChatGPT can be your ally for the SEO part of your blog- you can ask about several aspects of SEO. Let’s take just one for now, using the same method of “giving it knowledge” you will explain your situation. For example, you don’t know which keyword you will be targeting in your blog. Your request can be just ’’Make me a list of keywords that I can target for my next article based on what I told you’’. To give you some ideas of how it can be useful for you as an SEO ally, you can ask it for meta description/title suggestions, generate schema markups, or even related keywords to your target keyword.

The Cons of ChatGPT as a Travel Writer:

Obviously ChatGPT is not perfect and we will see why in the next section:

  1. Not personal: Sorry to tell you, but ChatGPT will not write your article LIKE you. What do we mean by that? Well, for now it can not be quite as personal as a human. And as a travel blogger, you want to pass on a certain amount of authenticity and personality, and trigger emotions in readers. This is after all, what will get readers to take action on your website for example clicking on Stay22 links. 😉 Even ChatGPT suggests you do it! When prompting it to write an article about a trip to Brazil, it states at the end “Note: Customize the article content by adding personal experiences, travel tips, and recommendations for accommodations, activities, and local insights to make it more engaging and tailored to your own travel style”.

  2. Not 100% accurate: ChatGPT can provide amazing answers to a wide range of questions. But the accuracy of its results largely depends on the type and complexity of the question asked. As a travel blogger, you should be clear and specific in your prompt and break down complex questions if needed. The other aspect of its inaccuracy is the fact that ChatGPT bases its responses on patterns and information learned during training. It relies on a knowledge base that has not been updated… since 2021. In our Brazil blog scenario, it was a trip you made in 2023.. You find out they made renovations to the monument shortly after your trip. This is important news that people would be interested to know, but when you will ask ChatGPT a request related to `”Cristo Redentor”, it may not not take into consideration this renovation because its data is too old.

  3. Laziness: While ChatGPT can indeed be a time-saving and productive tool, it’s important to be mindful of relying on it excessively. It’s a double-edged sword. While it can assist with certain tasks, relying too heavily on AI can hinder your own personal growth and creativity. It’s essential to strike a balance and not let it become a crutch for basic requests. By challenging yourself and tapping into your own creativity, you can foster personal development and explore new possibilities. So, while ChatGPT can be beneficial, remember to use it as a tool to enhance your work rather than replace your own capabilities.

Hopefully you have found this useful. Obviously ChatGPT it’s a fantastic tool for you to use as a travel blogger but Why? It helps you SAVE TIME-a precious aspect of your lifestyle as a travel blogger. But keep in mind that ChatGPT can be wrong sometimes and miss that human touch. We suggest you do your research and personalize your content to gain the most from it. The best of both worlds
