404 No More with Let Me Allez

Written by Kyle Brouse | Apr 16, 2024

For travel bloggers, broken links are bound to happen. When they do, they prevent you from collecting your affiliate commission and interrupt your user experience. Luckily, Stay22’s game-changing Let Me Allez (LMA) keeps your links fresh and your readers happy without you having to lift a finger.

Have you ever had that frustrating moment when you're buzzing about the traffic on one of your posts, only to realize none of that traffic is converting into actual bookings? You check out your affiliate link and bam, you're staring at a dreaded 404 page.

Ouch, right? If you've been in the travel blogging game for a while, you know the pain of discovering those pesky broken links across your site. Each is a missed opportunity for cash, a letdown for your readers, and a hit to your SEO.

But here's some good news: thanks to Stay22's Let Me Allez, those days of 404 disappointment could be behind you.

Why Let Me Allez is a breakthrough for 404s

  1. Automatic Repair of Broken Links: The LMA script automatically detects and fixes broken affiliate links on your site, meaning no more dead ends for your readers and no missed opportunities for bookings and revenue.

  2. Saves Time and Effort: No more manually updating broken links across hundreds or thousands of posts. This will save you countless hours and allow you to focus on creating great content instead of link maintenance.

  3. Enhances UX and SEO: By ensuring every link leads somewhere relevant, the LMA script enhances the overall user experience on your site, and signals to search engines that it's relevant and properly maintained.

  4. One-Time Easy Install: The LMA script takes less than 5 minutes to install, meaning that with 5 minutes of your time, you won't have to worry about affiliate link 404s.

What causes 404s?

The URL structure has changed

Occasionally, online travel agencies (OTAs) update their URL format to simplify the system or make it logical when adding new categories. This means the links created before the updated URL structure are no longer valid.

A typo in the URL

A URL typo is a simple error that can occur when pasting a link into your site. For example, you might accidentally miss a character in a URL when copying it.

The page no longer exists.

The page could no longer exist for multiple reasons. The hotel could have gone out of business, changed its name, or unlisted itself from the OTA (Booking.com, Expedia, etc).

How are the 404s fixed?

When the LMA script detects that the page is a 404 error page, it kicks in and redirects the reader to the correct page.

The script can automatically translate old URL structures to new ones, identify typos, and correct them on the fly, thereby taking your users to the intended destination.

When a page no longer exists, LMA redirects readers to the search results page (see below) using the accommodation's identification number. Although the specific accommodation may not be available on the OTA website, its record, including its location, still exists in the database. LMA utilizes this information to redirect readers to the appropriate search results page.

That’s a whole lot better than a blank 404 page, that’s for sure.

Note: If a URL is missing key information or the link does not lead to an OTA website, the 404 error cannot be corrected.

How do I get LMA on my website?

If you are not a Stay22 partner, the LMA script takes 5 minutes to install (seriously) and is entirely free. Once installed on your website, you no longer have to worry about broken links.

If you are a Stay22 partner with Let Me Allez installed, the script is already working on your website, fixing 404s. If you have any questions, you can reach out to psm@stay22.com.

You may have an exclusion in your script, meaning LMA won't convert links from certain providers. Unfortunately, LMA won’t protect these links, so we recommend that you do not have an exclusion in your script.
